UNDER 18 MATCH REPORT: LEFC 1 - 0 Derby Singh

Emmanuel made it 6 points in four days as they overcome top-of-the league Derby Singh with a fine team performance. Emmanuel went into the game missing both Aning and Smithson, with Sweet rested on the bench, and Etherington struggling with a bad virus but the church club still proved strong enough to clinch their first ever win against title-chasing Singh. Emmanuel began well with Lewis and Tyrer combining well on the left and Large superb in midfield, and soon Pownall opened up the Singh defence with a brilliant turn but his lay back did not quite carry to the on-rushing Schad. Soon after, though, Emmanuel did take the lead as Etherington drew a foul that produced a free kick that fell to Sharp who scored brilliantly from the most acute of angles. The second half proved harder for the church club as Tyrer hobbled off with a hip injury and Singh raised their game. The Emmanuel defence were now under considerable pressure but with Sweet working hard in midfield, both Arme and Riman immense at the heart of defence, and Day behind them proving once again a safe pair of hands, Emmanuel coped with everything Singh could throw at them. Emmanuel still, though, carried an attacking threat and nearly made it 2-0 when first Watkiss's thumping header was cleared off the line and then Walker's header produced a fine save from the Singh keeper.

Day; Sharp, Riman, Arme, Tyrer (Watkiss); Pownall, Large, Schad, Lewis (Sweet); Walker, Etherington.
