On a pitch that was so narrow that anybody with a reasonable turn of pace could've got on the end of their own cross Emmanuel suffered a second successive heavy defeat. Whilst last weeks loss against Castle Donington saw the team battle to cope with a powerful and fast attack, yesterdays defeat saw the team put in a mostly inept and error strewn display. Even luck deserted the team with several clearances rebounding of fellow team mates and the ball falling kindly for the opposition. It was a match to forget but for some small and important reasons to be very happy.
The first small reason to be happy is Bishal. There is never a time that being in Bishals company isn't fun and rarely a time when he isn't smiling. So to witness his first league goal and the resulting celebration was almost as pleasing as a win would've been. There are few more hardworking and enthusiastic players in the squad and the goal was richly deserved for the energy and committment he has shown since joining the club over the summer.
Another reason to be happy was that no matter what defensive catastrophe, no matter how many goals behind we were or however unlikely the comeback, there was no giving up until the referee had blown his whistle. In this difficult run of fixtures it is important that this spirit remains because it something which will ensure a very successful finish to the season. When you are playing against tough opposition it is difficult to get any consistancy because each week is a battle. The fact that we have had so many repeat fixtures in a short space of time against the stronger teams has not helped but we must look upon it as challenge. In my opinion we are more than capable of matching teams like Denby but we must perform better in a fornight to prove that. On current standings it's 1-1 with the 3rd match to come. Let's make sure that we are the victors.
A further good point was that at times there was some neat interplay during the second half and some positive football. Bishal's finely taken goal, a superb unmarked run into the box, and Patryk's perfect lob over the keeper were signs that when things are working, they work well. During the second half Noddy, Bishal and Taku showed that they wanted to work hard and fight for their position in the team and it has not gone unnoticed. Well Done guys. Special mention also to Adam who pulled on the gloves and made some fine saves but was left exposed too often and should not feel responsible for any of the goals conceded. There is far more to come and Adam will always do us proud. Thanks also to Isaac who is leading the team excellently through the tough period and handling some rough treatment with great dignity and maturity, truely a great captain.
Next week we travel to Castle Donington and we CAN get something. Do not stop believing Emmanuel.
Goals: Bishaldo, Trebski
Man of the Match: Taku "the coolest football name in the squad" Karemba
