It really was a game of two halves as Emmanuel just could not get into the game in the first half Cameron Hales was called on early to make a couple of saves and last ditch tackles from Will McLeod and Byron Pratt kept Diamonds at bay. It wasn’t long before an unstoppable shot was unleashed and although Hales got a hand to it he couldn’t prevent the goal and Emmanuel were 1 down.
This seemed to kick them into life and the midfield trio of Nathan Walsh, George McCague and Sam Cosgrove started to make in roads and Isaac Frost battled away up front and came close on a couple of occasions. The half time whistle gave Emmanuel the chance to make a couple of changes, and this paid dividends almost immediately. Murray Leishman caused havoc down the right, he whipped the ball in and Hales and Pratt caused confusion in the defence and Mohammed Eljaf pounced smashing the ball home.
McLeod was joined at the back by Reuben Hollington who made a couple of smart interceptions to break up Diamonds attacks. Mcleod played a ball down the right Leishman controlled and struck an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area that flew into the top corner. Diamonds never gave up and Cosgrove pulled off two point blank saves to keep Emmanuel in front. Again they attacked and this time it was Hollington who made the goal saving tackle, injuring himself in the process.
McCague came back on to steady the ship at the back and Emmanuel were forced to play a counter attacking game, Hales and Eljaf both with a couple of half chances. Cosgrove was called into action in the dying moments and made another terrific save, Emmanuel progress to the next round with a 2-1 victory.
Man of the Match Sam Cosgrove
