UNDER 15 MATCH REPORT: Mickleover 95 2 - 3 LEFC
Emmanuel finished the season on a high with a good away performance and a win against Mickleover 95 at Vicarage Road. With the winners taking 5th place and it was all to play for and nothing but the win would do for Emmanuel.
The first half was fairly even with Emmanuel proving superior in wide areas and some good passing opening up the Mickleover defence on a few occasions. It wasn't long before Emmanuel had the ball in the back of the net after fine work from Kieron Baldock down the left and a brilliant pass inside saw John Parton side foot home from 8 yards with a great finish. 1-0. There were a few more close calls for Mickleover and if their goals were regulation height and not 7 foot then it could well have been more to Emmanuel. However, it was Mickleover who scored next with Emmanuel failing to make a decisive challenge and allowing a player to run across the box, turn and shoot. 1-1. Not long after it was 2-1 to the home side after similar failure to deal with Mickleover's right winger saw a low cross turned in at the back post past stand in keeper Richardson. Nothing the keeper could do, but the defence should've done better. Half time 2-1.
Despite the scoreline there was no panick as Emmanuel knew they were the better team and that Mickleover would fold sooner or later. This proved to be the case although some slack defending led to a few close calls, but overall the second period belonged to Emmanuel who were again dominant on the wings. It was left forward Kieron Baldock who got the equaliser with a stunning goal from 35 yards as he controlled the ball on the left wing and let fly with a perfect half volley which arched in off the far post as the Mickleover keeper stood helpless on his 6 yard line. 2-2. Game on. With 30 minutes remaining on came Noraddin Tourki, Libya's most famous person to live in Loughborough. Within 5 minutes he scored what turned out to be the winner with a trademark header following some great work down the right channel from Jack "I've got 10 for the season" Ball. As Noddy met the ball with his beautiful Libyan forehead and guided it over the keeper the clouds in the sky parted and angels sang. 2-3. Mickleover kept pushing but the best chances again fell to Emmanuel and perhaps the best was a great effort from the much loved Trebski who was unlucky with a superb dipping volley that grazed the crossbar. Final score 2-3 Emmanuel. Get in!
Overall, a good solid away win against a Mickleover team who always make you work hard. That's 3 wins in 3 against Mickleover this season but all three victories have been hard earnt with only a goal being the difference in each match. Emmanuel can be proud of the finish to the season. When we needed 2 wins, we got 2 wins and the effort in those 2 matches has been fantastic and the response to the recent disappointing performances has been exceptional.
Special mention to Adam "The Rock" Richardson who donned the gloves today and did us proud. Well Done Adam.
Also, the possibility that this was indeed Noddy's last game for Emmanuel in the league makes me very sad. Noddy has been a great Emmanuel player, a legend and a top top lad. We all love you Noddy and will miss you immensely, but we still have few more months to put up with you and enjoy your company yet.
I will do a season review over the next week or so, until then, well done Emmanuel, truely the best club around.
Goals: Berbajohn, Baldock, Tourki Turkey
