UNDER 10 MATCH REPORT: LEFC 1 - 3 Heanor Staffs

Loughborough Emmanuel under 10’s slumped to their first defeat of the season with a 1-3 reversal against Heanor Staffs
Emmanuel started steadily but were aware that Heanor had improved dramatically since they last met. Both teams looked good from the start with Isaac Frost going close and good work from David Aryeetey and Nathan Walsh led to Hagan Greaves having a shot saved. Heanor started trying their luck from distance and Sam Cosgrove made a couple of good saves.

Heanor again had a strike from distance and somehow it swerved into the top corner. George McCague and Rueben Hollington were strong in the tackle at the back but Heanor picked up a poor clearance and Cosgrove did well to tip the shot away. From the resulting corner Heanor were stronger in the box and toe poked in a second. The half time whistle sounded with Emmanuel tailing 0-2.

With wholesale changes made Emmanuel needed to be quick out of the Blocks and Mohammed Eljaf set up Cameron Hales who fired his shot straight at the keeper. Rob Cusick and Murray Leishman then combined to test the Heanor keeper. Heanor were playing on the counter attack and excellent defensive work from Mathew Griffiths kept them at bay. It wasn’t long though before they managed to find the back of the net again and Emmanuel were 0-3 down.

To their credit Emmanuel kept plugging away and didn’t let their heads drop Will McLeod, Eljaf, Hales and Leishman all having good shots. They were rewarded with a fine goal from Leishman. Alas it was too little too late as the ref sounded the final whistle. Emmanuel trudged off with the bitter taste of defeat for the first time, as they were told it’s how they respond to that defeat that will matter.
