UNDER 18 MATCH REPORT: Sherwin 2 - 1 LEFC

Emmanuel's run of four straight wins came to an end away at second-placed Sherwin on Saturday. The church club began well and dominated the first half with some wonderful football, a phase that culminated with a superb Walker volley from the edge of the box. Sherwin however equalised with an equally fine strike. Emmanuel then came back strongly and with seconds to go to half time nearly restored their lead as Etherington's fine header hit the inside of the post and rolled along the line but somehow did not go in. The second half was a close, even and hard-fought affair with very few clear cut chances to either side until, with 12 minutes to go, Sherwin took a surprise lead. Emmanuel responded well and produced a lovely passing move including several players and a fine shot from Etherington which flew into the net; it was not, though, to be a goal, being ruled offside. Emmanuel continued to press but did not quite produce the cool, calm and exact football needed to break down the Sherwin defence. Large took the man of the match award.

Day; Sharp (Taylor), Arme, Schad, Tyrer (Cole); Pownall, Large, Etherington, Smithson (Eccleston); Aning, Walker. Subs: Watkiss, Lewis.
