UNDER 12 MATCH REPORT: Draycott 1 - 4 LEFC

Goalscorers: Kirk 3, Ryan

Assists: Kirk

Man of the Match: Kirk

I thought I’d seen most things in 40+ years of football but I hadn’t ever seen this before…

…a player comes out of goal at half time (with the score goalless) and scores a hat-trick in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half. Take a bow Kirk Walters!

The team were a bit like a milk float in the first half – enough bottle to get the job done but nothing much above first gear. The nearest Emmanuel could come to scoring was a long range Zenotti effort that whistled just over the bar. Draycott threatened on several occasions but the defence held strong despite being regularly outnumbered.

The match was crying out for somebody with sufficient composure to get hold of the ball and make some passes. There is nobody in the LEFC team with more composure on the ball than Kirk Walters and the moment that the ref blew to start the 2nd half Kirk was stroking the ball round like it was his best mate. He instantly got the whole team playing and when the ball started to drop to him in the box he just passed it into the back of the net. It was an unbelievable 5 minutes and when Kirky got bored of scoring himself he decided to set up Ryan for the 4th.

With a whole host of strong players out of the squad, the match was an opportunity for other squad members to get some serious pitch time. Expectations were modest but this turned out to be yet another history making morning:

This is the first time that we have won 3 matches in a row in the DCL.

This was only our second ever win by more than 2 goals in the Derby City League.

This was only the third time that we have ever scored more than 3 goals in the DCL.

We are now in our highest ever league position in the DCL.

Anupam – our captain courageous put in another big effort for the team.

Matthew/Richard – These lads made more interceptions than Interpol. Seriously solid. Last 3 matches – 2 goals conceded – it doesn’t get much better than that.

Aurel/Tom – had encouraging full back displays.

Nass – solid in goals & seriously combative in centre mid. If he can get a higher percentage of passes away to his teammates he can be the complete midfield player.

Robbie – some great touches & passes, particularly in the second half.

Jake – cracking shot; intelligent passes from an intelligent player.

James – great second half – used his body to turn his opponent and created mayhem down the right.

William – please be well behaved during the week but you have my permission to be a massive nuisance to defenders on the football pitch on Saturdays.

Ryan – love the tricks & the fact he backs himself to beat his man. Had to work hard for the team in a couple stints wide left & got the goal his effort deserved.

Kieron – what a superb attitude – climbs off his sick bed to play, brings his Mum with him in case he collapses (again) and constantly whinges when he’s rested as a rolling sub.

Kirk – Top, top drawer.
