Soon I’m going to start turning up to matches expecting to win but don’t be deceived by the scoreline. St George’s gave us a thorough working over, created more chances than us and reduced our sweeper to a nervous wreck (Don’t worry lads although he’s still screaming ‘get back’ and ‘mark’ he’s lieing down in a dark room with a flannel on his head and should be back to his ‘usual’ self next week).
But good things come those who wait, not to those who hesitate. And when the chances came we were in the right position, played the right ball and hit the back of the net.
This was another history making morning:
This was our first ever win by more than 2 goals in the Derby City League.
This was our first home win of the season.
This was only our second ever back to back win in the DCL.
This was only the second time that we have ever scored more than 3 goals in the DCL.
We spent all week encouraging our players to shoot across the keeper rather than going for the covered near post. To then score 2 goals from players getting wide and cutting the ball back across rather than shooting at the near post was incredibly rewarding. And there’s me thinking the lads don’t listen to a word I say…
This was a solid squad effort. Six players were involved in the goals and 7 players were involved in the defence. Some special mentions:
Kieron – his finishing changed the course of this match – can your relatives come every week?
Ryan/Kirk – Great cut backs lads
Kirk/Nass – thanks for standing in for us in goals
Robbie/Ahmed – constant ground covering led to 3 of the goals.
Jake – first ever match; he doesn’t believe we normally lose.
William/James/Cedrick – ball didn’t quite fall you today but you still put in the effort and worked for the team
Matthew/Richard/Anupam/Sajid – must work on defending as a unit but some solid interceptions and forward passing – well done lads.
