UNDER 14's MATCH REPORT: LEFC 1 - 6 Mickleover 95 Utd

Well, let's start with the negative and then we can finish on a high with the positive. We had a bad second half, failed to close down quickly, reacted rather than anticipated by which time it was too late and a few of us gave in too soon. We didn't pass very well, missed the chances we got and generally played poorly.

Now, everybody smile. We took the lead after only a few minutes of the first half after some great play down the right by Jordan, a sublime cross by Patryk and a superb header by John that Andy Gray would have been proud of. For those of us who were born in the 90's maybe Alan Shearer is the next best comparison. 1-0. We were in the lead, against the best team in the league and what's more, we kept that lead for another 30 minutes and came close to increasing it on a few occasions. We fought hard, pressurised, tried to put into play some of the things we've worked on in training, the signs are there that we are really moving forwards in each game. Then, the sucker punch. With a minute to go before half time they equalise after we fail to close down player with the ball who's standing directly infront of our goal on the edge of the area. He hits a good shot which hits the underside of the bar and just bounces over the line. 1-1. Damn. From that moment on we seemed to do what most teams do when they panick a little, which is revert to what they used to do. For the next 36 minutes we proceded to miss tackles, lose players and when in possession lump it as far away as possible.

We are better than this but lets remind ourselves that we were playing the top team in the league who have beaten all other challengers. They are a very good team and should be applauded for the way they play the game. Get it down and pass it. This is not beyond Emmanuel and I stand by what I said today, that I do not think Mickleover possess better players. We have excellent ability in the squad. They are not fitter than us, stronger than us, nor do they posess powerful influencial Bryan Robson-esque players such as our Captain Isaac, or better forwards than John and certainly no-one can come close to matching the drive and passion of Patryk or the assured and intelligent play of Jabed. Dan is the best left back in the league, Adam is as strong as any centre back, Noddy and Alex are great strikers and we have an excellent keeper in Rob. I could go on listing the individual talents of every squad member but back to the point. We just need to keep playing together, develop a better understanding together and practice together. It's Ed and myself who have to help acheive that, make training work and make good decisions. We're all in this together and we will all continue to keep working hard, to get better and better.

In conclusion, our potential is huge but consistency comes through developing our abilty to understand one another on the pitch. We must anticipate each other more and not play solely on reaction. Over the coming months we will be working on various combinations and starting to develop an understanding as a team. We have an awesome team spirit so nothing is impossible.

See you wednesday focussed and ready.

So Andy Gray for the kids, Alan Shearer for those born on the 90s.
What about those born on the 70s??

Andy Gray was golden boot winner in 76/77. He was my example for the older generation.

Everything that needs saying has already been said by Luke but just remember how you contained the top team of the division for 35 minutes. You closed them down well, never let them get through, basically just frustrated them & we were winning the game. Then there was the second half....If you can play like the first half throughout the season then you will do well. More simple passing & more talking between the team is needed. We know you can do it, we have already seen it so far through the season in patches. Consistancy is needed. But all in all well done to you all as they were a good team & they showed why they are top of the league. Special mention to Rob who commanded his area well & yes it was a great penalty save. Still work to be done to perfect your game young man but as your dad & a supporter of the team, yes i am proud as i am of you all. Also a special mention to Dan who closed down there number 24 for the first 35 minutes & never looked like he would be beaten....lets not talk about the second half! Also want to mention how i think Patryk is pushing the team forward, a great asset to the team. Control your anger & frustration into a positive way & the midfield will be yours for the taking. Onward we go into the cup match next week & heads up again lads, you are good enough to get a result. Positive thinking & simple passing is the key. Cya training wednesday!

You have tremendous spirit as a team and its channelling it throughout the whole 70 that will see you win as you have done in the past.

I only caught the the last ten of the first half and you looked so good - what a great job you did on number 24 in that first half Dan to keep him contained! You've got great potential - a natural left back! - like Rob's dad says as a team forget the second half - well at least how to play that way :-) - they turned on their passing game and the two quick goals were hard punches to recover from - great penalty save Rob!!!

On Wednesday is it worth me setting up a 'throw in' 'station' / try out - we might have a hidden Delap - and if we don't we could at least see who's best at taking them and /or improve others skills... just a thought...

Come on Emmanuel! Do it for Moses!
