UNDER 14's MATCH REPORT: LEFC 2 - 3 FIELD LANE

It was both a frustrating, no agonising, day for the Under 14's team and a positive one as they were on the wrong end of the result in a match they completely dominated. The improvements from last season were evident from kick off as Emmanuel stroked the ball about beautifully and played football which last season would have been a mere fantasy. Emmanuel's strong midfield of Trebski, Timson and Carter dominated the pitch box to box and intelligent running from forwards Tourki, Ponstance and Bucknor meant it was only a matter of time before the breakthrough came. However, after having a goal disallowed it was Field Lane who scored first after an awkward bounce unsettled the so far solid defence of Zubayel, Richardson, Coneally and Brown, and some lad (who cares what his name is) scored. BOOOOO! It wasn't long before Emmanuel were back on level terms after the constant pressure resulted in a well taken corner by Sam "Golden Balls" Carter who sweetly swung the ball onto the head of captain, hero, and all round nice guy Isaac Timson. Timson saw his initial header saved but lashed home the rebound to make the score level at half time.

After a rousing team talk by handsome Head Coach Luke Griffin and a fired up Manager Ed Grainger Emmanuel kicked off the second half in style taking the lead 30 seconds after the re-start when some neat passing in midfield opened up the Field Lane defence and Noraddin "Noddy" Tourki played a sublime defence splitting through ball to Alex "skillz that killz" Bucknor who slotted home past the flailing (and seemingly 25 years old) goalkeeper in the Field Lane net. 2-1, get in!!!

However, things took a downward path from then on as Field Lane became frustrated with being outplayed. One challenge in particular on Captain Isaac Timson was particularly disgusting but the two-footed off the floor challenge from behind (a potential leg breaker) gain nothing but a free kick. Timson came close from resulting free kick but it was Field Lane who began to make more chances from then on. Poor defending from a corner and failure to get a challenge in cost Emmanuel 2 goals in the latter part of the game and despite the tireless work of Timson and Trebski in midfield and the constant running of Bucknor and Tourki chances were hard to come by.

What the Emmanuel players can take heart from however is the terrific team effort, style of play and togetherness that they demonstrated on the pitch. Superb displays were everywhere, Richardson was awesome, Jabed was commanding and the covering and work rate of fullbacks and forwards Coneally, Callan, Ponstance, Brown and Telfer were impressive. Carter played a simple, clever and effective game and the energy and power of Timson and Trebski provides a taste of things to comes. Every player left the pitch disappointed, not because of defeat alone but the fact that they knew it was a game they should have won. However, in the end it was the lack of goals that cost them victory and the team need to be more ruthless infront of goal.

Manager Ed Grainger and Head Coach Luke Griffin were ecstatic with the effort and incredibly proud, Grainger, in an uncharacteristically positive moment after the game claimed "We will definitely win our next game!".

the team were good and the supporters vocal and partisan (but fair) in their support of the team - the opposing supporters were vocal and partisan too but their heckling of not just the ref but the young Emmanuel players was occaisionally bordering on the excess - beyond simple gamesmanship to bad sportsmanship at times - even after they had secured victory - one hears of bad losers but bad winners?

the Emmanuel team spirit even in losing and their taking of the loss so well is to be applauded.

I agree Isaac. We played with great tempo and some neat passing, spread the ball well and defended excellently for the majority. We have added a good amount of bite to our play and as a team we looked like we had the "balls" to take on anybody. We will only get better and continue to close the gap on the opposition. We did not deserve to lose. I will continue to work hard to make us reach new levels of play and develop ourselves further. After yesterday I know that everybody else is up for the challenge too.

I've only looked through the video briefly, some footage is good, but the camera didn't pick stuff up well across the far side so it varies. Not sure if the bullet cam is the long term solution. I may need a Camcorder.

Will see what I can do

As a father, a supporter, a linesman & general gofer of Emmanuel Football under 14's, i just wish to say how proud i am of the whole squad for the effort & work they put into saturdays match against Field "Mardy" Lane.

From the first to the last kick, the whole team & those shouting from the sides never gave up & it was a priveledge to be there in such a good atmosphere. I truelly believe the "edometer" should be moved up a couple of notches as even Ed couldnt have expected any more or better from the whole of the squad & the crowd. Just wait till we get to there place & show them the away support is just as passionate!
I have been thinking whom i could give a special mention too from the game but everyone gave there all & at some point of the game, every single person stood out through sheer determination, tireless running & sheer grit through a game that was a little marred through bad sportsmanship from the opposing team.
I can safely say lads that we showed them that we are not a team that will roll over this season & that we do mean business.
Looking forward to the next game very much although if i have to run the line again, can someone bring me some oxygen!!!
Well played Emmanuel, you've made your parents & friends very proud
