In 4.5 years of organising the team this was an all time low. Too many players don't seem to associate hard work and winning football matches. However, let's try and concentrate on the positive:
I didn't lose any footballs
Nobody got sent off
We let in 3 less goals than last week
We created 3 glorious chances in the second half
Bradley (special skills award) and Kieron worked their socks off
James Barrow got his first team game and should be proud of his effort
The 2 Thomas' put in good performances
Nass and Cedric again showed promise in defence
I am determined to work with and encourage all of the lads in the squad. However, the players that get selected for the squad in the next few weeks will be the ones that have rolled up their sleeves and played with effort and determination.
Manager's state of mind: Desperate but determined
Team Morale: Poor

Although another defeat by the under 11's, i thought there were some positives come out the game. The keeper i thought had a very good game, caught the ball well & came out when he had too. I was quite impressed with hi. A little more control in midfield & some chasing back when under pressure, i think this bunch of lads will gell & play better. Keep up with the hard work lads, it will all come good in the end.
Thanks for the positive post.
Thomas, the goalie, did v.well. At this age, if you can make the right judgements about when to come out and when to stay back (which Thomas did) that's actually more important than pulling off the odd spectacular save.
At this age central midfield is a difficult place to play. It's a massive pitch for 10 year old lads but you're spot on about the control in midfield. If we had more of a handle on midfield they wouldn't have to chase back so often. It becomes a bit of a vicious circle if you don't get some control in centre mid.
I'm still scratching my head about which lads are best suited to play centre mid and I may even have to sacrifice another area and put in 3 central midfielders.

Sacrifice a forward Andy, play 4-1-3-2. It'll help with bodies in the centre and when the ball get near the opposition goal the lads will suddenly find the energy to get up there, as opposed to getting back to defend when suddenly they are knackered.
It's all moving in the right direction, but a hard learning curve. You'll find out who wants it and who's soft.
'who wants it and who's soft'...spoken like a true Northerner Luke.
As for formations, we've been playing 4-4-2. I'm going to stick with it for the time being as the kids have enough to contend with, without me altering the system.
All the teams we've played so far seem to set up this way and when we're under pressure, having wide midfield men stops the opposition full backs from getting too gun ho. We also have natural wide midfield lads and most of our limited attaking threat has come down the flanks.
Andy
This is all assuming that they stay in formation, ha ha.
