Many of you know that my background lies in fitness, personal training and exercise. I studied martial arts from a young age, fought full contact Muay Thai and found great enjoyment in trying to constantly better myself. As we come towards the new football season it reminds me of all the training in the build up to a fight. The most important part of any sporting success is the preparation and the summer has been a perfect opportunity to train, to improve and better ourselves physically. How many of you have done that? You should ask yourself how much you want something, how much it matters, because if it does you should give 100% to achieving that goal.
Next time you go to training think about being faster, stronger and better than before. If you don't push yourself beyond your limits you'll never achieve that because once you adopt the "giving in" mentality when it gets tough you'll become accustomed to doing so. When it matters on the pitch, you'll give in too. So apply yourself 100% to training, make sure you walk away knowing that you couldn't have worked harder and never wimp out of hard work. Perhaps this quote from Stephen Doley Jnr best sums it up.
"A man who wants something will find a way, a man who doesn't will find an excuse".
I'll leave you with this nike ad. I'm not saying you'll all become world class athletes, but don't you want to know how good you can be?
