UNDER 15 MATCH REPORT: Stretton Eagles 5 - 1 LEFC
Despite taking the lead in the first 5 minutes, dominating posssession throughout and creating several excellent chances Emmanuel again failed to take the points they deserved. By the time Stretton started taking the chances the defence presented them, through sloppy play and poor anticipation, Emmanuel had already squandered enough opportunities to win the game comfortably and once again the result was not a reflection on the performance, but more the inability to score a goal.
Timson had netted the opener early on, making it 6 for the season, with a well taken chance at the near post. Emmanuel then started to dominate and it looked like it would be a good day. More chances came but Timson, Ball and anybody who had been stood near the goal, when the ball rolled infront of the line from a corner, failed to add to the scoreline. Would we live to regret the misses? YES.
The second half was much the same with play dominated by Emmanuel and some good build up around the penalty area, but the final ball was lacking. The best opportunity fell to Ball however when he broke through one on one with the keeper but passed the ball into the delighted keepers arms. The chance to go 2-0 missed and an incident that could've changed the game. Jack has been a great signing for Emmanuel and contributed a great deal in his first season, so he'll be more disappointed than anyone not to have made it 10 for his personal tally. After that Stretton grew in confidence and some interesting refereeing helped the opposition gain a foothold in the game and frustrate Emmanuel with a series of decisions going the home teams way. Poor defending from corners, lack of anticipation and an inability to clear a ball cost Emmanuel and before Ed had time to secure the last strap on Rik Barrow's straight jacket we were losing the second half 5-0. Not good, really, not good.
So, in conclusion, we were, for the most par,t the better team, but failed to capitalise on the possession and opportunities we had. Stretton on the other hand took the chances that came their way, so well done to them. It is certainly not an ability issue because of all the chances we created there can be no doubt that as a team we possess the individuals to take those chances, but the composure infront of goal must come back. Stop snatching at chances and rushing shots and the goals will come. We can't keep playing well and losing, it's annoying me and Ed needs something to cheer him up as he's an Ipswich supporter. Bring on Wednesday and Toton Tigers. Two games to go, and still in our hands.
Chin Up Emmanuel. The best lessons come through hardship. Stick together and get fighting for each other and we will prevail.
Goal: Timson
Man of the Match: Jabed
