UNDER 15 MATCH REPORT: LEFC 1 - 2 Darley Abbey Colts

Animated Gifs

Despite an improved performance from the last meeting with Darley, Emmanuel still failed to play anywhere near the standards of the recents meetings with Heanor and Stretton.

A disappointing result, that could've been different had we taken the good chances we created, was all that we took home last night. There were some good moments of play when we tried to play our passing game but far too often we ended up playing the same way as Darley and getting the ball back to front as quick as possible. This can work when you have 2 big, quick strikers but then you don't get the support. We spend a lot of time in training working on build up play and getting in supporting positions. However, on match days we're guilty of forgetting ourselves and being too direct at times, leaving the forwards isolated and the midfielders playing catch up. This happened too often last night. As I mentioned after the game, the transition from defence to attack and vice versa has to be controlled, otherwise we end up with big gaps between attack, midfield and defence. In turn this makes it hard to press and win the ball back as a unit. Sure we could play the way most teams do and just stick the big lads upfront and hoof it all game but I don't think I could watch that every week. We will play football and good football because we have the players to do so. It just requires more thought and effort.

It was a close scoreline in the end and Vishal had very little to do during the second half with the exception of seeing a shot hit the bar. Having seen Jack hit the post and one cleared off the line during the first half, Keezy miss from under the bar in the second and a number of crosses fizz across the Darley 6 yard box it really should've been an Emmanuel win. Scoring the goals however has been very inconsistant this season but as I pointed out, defensively we have been pretty good. We're performing the same in this department to Toton and Denby, which puts us right up there with the good teams. The difference is that these sides have scored twice as many goals as us. At this level of football it is not uncommen to concede a goal or two each match, the stronger teams just score 4 or more with some regularity. We need to address this issue to progress as a team. We need to offer more threat to the opposition going forward and show more power in the final third.

Chin up Emmanuel, there's still 6 matches left to play and let's enjoy every minute playing this beautiful game. Heanor next. Who's up for that?

Goal: Timson
Man of the Match: Joe

Cheers "lad who hit the bar". Cracking effort, but we're glad it hit the bar. You've defintely got better as the season has gone on and started scoring goals. That's the difference, some weeks we're hot, others not. Well Done, and we'll see you on Wednesday 14th.
