With Sweet rested, Sharp and Smithson injured and Riman unable to start, Emmanuel made several changes for their trip to Pastures Youth in the Derby City League. The game began quietly but Emmanuel gradually got on top as they began to force the pace and to open up the Pastures defence. Pownall forced the Pastures keeper into a great save, Etherington hit the bar, and Lewis's goal-bound header was somehow cleared off the line. Finally, Emmanuel were rewarded as Walker fired in after a superb cross field ball form left-back Cole. The second half saw Emmanuel begin slowly, and Day was forced into a fine early save. This seemed to reignite the Emmanuel front line who, urged on by the outstanding Large, came back strongly and, within minutes, Aning won a deserved penalty which he converted expertly himself. Emmanuel nearly added a third as Walker set up Frutuoso but the Portuguese winger could not quite make the chance tell. Pastures responded by forcing a couple of corners, from the second of which they scored, and so, with five minutes to go, it was game on again, and Pastures were only kept at bay through fine defensive work from Tyrer, Smythe and Riman (on for the injured Arme) as well as a quite fantastic save from Day. However, just as it looked like Pastures might make Emmanuel sweat, the church club broke quickly through Walker who played in Etherington to make it 3-1.
Day (c); Tyrer, Arme (Riman), Schad, Cole; Pownall, Large, Walker, Lewis (Frutuoso); Aning (Smythe), Etherington.
