Emmanuel took on league-leaders Sherwin and together the two teams produced a superb match of tremendous quality and high drama. In the early stages a very impressive Sherwin were the better team and Riman and Arme at the back had to be at their best. Emmanuel, though, gradually began to get on top with Sharp and Schad prompting well from their full-back berths and Smithson quite outstanding in midfield. Indeed, it was Emmanuel who took the lead as centre-forward Etheringotn first held up the ball and then turned to score with an excellent strike. Emmanuel soon after doubled their lead as Pownall broke free on the right to score from outside the box. Then, just minutes before half-time, the influential Smithson was forced to come off with an injured shoulder and almost immediately Sherwin scored to make it 2-1 to Emmanuel at half time. It was, though, a lead they soon lost as Sherwin scored with a superb long-range strike. Emmanuel, for a moment, looked vulnerable but with Walker and Sweet both busting a gut in midfield and Tyrer creative from right-back Emmanuel were soon back on the front foot and creating a series of good chances. However, with just minutes to go, Sherwin got a break-away goal and suddenly Emmanuel looked like losing the game - until, that is, with 2 minutes to go and Frutuoso on for Aning, Etherington latched onto a neat Large through-ball to score clinically.
Day; Sharp (Tyrer), Arme, Riman, Schad; Pownall, Sweet, Walker, Smithson (Large); Aning (Frutuoso), Etherington. Subs: Cole, Watkiss.
