Loughborough Emmanuel under 10’s soared to the top of the league for the first time after a convincing 1-5 win against Allestree Juniors.
Changes had been made to the starting line up due to absences, but Emmanuel were soon on the front foot with good work from Robert Cusick and Will McLeod who fed Isaac Frost who went close with his first effort. Allestree steadily improved and Reuben Hollington and Byron Pratt had to be on their toes and alert in defence to keep them at bay.
Cameron Hales made a good save looked up and a good kick deceived the home defence and Frost was away for his first. Allestree were under immense pressure and only excellent keeping kept Emmanuel at bat with First McLeod and then Nathan Walsh denied by his heroics, it wasn’t long before the pressure told and a good corner from Murray Leishman, ricocheted around the box and with Walsh making a nuisance of himself he forced the ball in off of a defender.
As the second half got under way and excellent move involving Pratt and Cusick down the left the ball was whipped in for McLeod who just had the slightest touch to tap it in. Allestree were not a spent force though and fought back manfully with an unstoppable shot sailing in to the top corner. Hales had to make a fantastic save moments later as the same player tried the same shot again. Good work buy Pratt and Hagan Greaves saw Frost scamper away for his second.
Cusick was working his socks off on the left, and with Pratt and Hollington steady at the back it wasn’t long before Leishman got the chance to add to his seasons tally with a stunning strike. At the final whistle news came that Heanor Juniors had drawn thus sending Emmanuel two points clear at the Top of the league.
Man of the Match Robert Cusick
