Emmanuel traveled on Saturday to previously unbeaten Toton in the Derby City League Challenge Cup and came away with a hard-fought win. Toton dominated the first half playing with both drive and skill but Emmanuel defended brilliantly and never really allowed Toton a clear-cut chance. Arme was outstanding at centre back and Sharp and Tyrer both rock-solid at right and left full-back. Riman too was in commanding form at sweeper and produced at least one goal-saving recovery tackle to ensure the game was goalless at half time. The second half began with a brilliant Smithson run and cross, which was met beautifully by Pownall who headed goal-ward, his header was saved well by the Toton keeper but the ball fell to Walker who pounced to make it three goals in the three games. Toton came back strongly and were awarded a penalty which they duly converted to level the scores. They could then have taken the lead but for a fantastic Day save. This seemed to inspire Emmanuel who came backs strongly themselves, with Pownall hitting the bar and then Sweet producing a fine shot to restore the church club's one-goal advantage. With 15 minutes to go Emmanuel still had to defend resolutely, and with Large, Taylor and Schad working overtime in midfield this they did.
Day; Sharp, Arme, Roman, Tyrer; Pownall, Schad, Large (Taylor), Smithson; Walker, Aning (Sweet). Subs: Cole, Eccleston, Lewis
