Loughborough Emmanuel under 10’s got there first ever league campaign off to a winning start with a hard fought victory over Pear Tree All Stars. Arriving at The Derby Racecourse resplendent in their new tracksuits, you could sense the excitement, looking across at the opposition, the boys could tell this was going to be their toughest challenge yet; The Pear Tree Boys all seemed so big!
The match kicked off and Emmanuel enjoyed some early possession Cameron Hales going close on a couple of occasions. Pear Tree went into the lead but Emmanuel never let their head drop with good work from David Aryeetey, Robert Muddimer and George MCague Mohammed Eljaf scored the equaliser. It was end to end stuff good defending from Will McLeod and good goalkeeping from Sam Cosgrove kept Pear Tree at Bay. Sustitute Murray Leishman was soon in the action and scored a great goal. A lapse of concentration let in Pear Tree to equalise just before half time.
More good defending from Reuben Hollington and Emmanuel were soon back in the lead with Eljaf grabbing his second, a defensive mix up saw Pear Tree nip in for yet another equaliser. Mathew Griffiths and Hagan Greaves came on to bolster the midfield and it wasn’t long before Leishman nipped in for his second to push Emmanuel back in front.
Emmanuel held on and a good ball down the line from McLeod saw Hales race free, his pin point cross was struck first time by Eljaf but somehow Pear Tree got a man back and it was hacked off the line, both sets of supporters applauded the football and Emmanuel ran out eventual Victors 4-3, with the man of the match award going to David Aryeetey.
