UNDER 16's MATCH REPORT: LEFC 7 - 2 Pastures Youth

Emmanuel continue to keep in touch at the top of the Derby City League following another good win, this time against Pastures Youth FC. The home side began well but ironically the first goal originated with a Pastures corner which keper Day took really well , before propelling the ball down the pith to Sweet whose fine strike hit the post, the ball then made its way to Pownall who made no mistake. Emmanuel then doubled their lead as a mix-up in the Pastures defence presented Pownall with an offer he could not refuse. Pownall then completed an excellent first-half hat-trick as he finished off a stunning seven-pas move involving not only midfielders Large and Schad but also centre-back Riman and both full-backs Cole and Sharp - easily the best team-goal of the campaign to-date. Emmanuel then scored a forth as, following a fine Sharp corner, Watkiss pounced on a loose ball to fire home his first ever league goal. With minutes to go to half time, however, the church side were punished for a lapse of concentration and Pastures snatched a goal. The second half began with the lively Taylor and wide-man Lewis coming on as substitutes. However, Emmanuel were slow to get going and allowed Pastures to make it 4-2. For a while it looked like Emmanuel might struggle but the team gradually regrouped, settled down and responded to the challenge from a now battling Pastues team. The response took the form a fourth goal from Pownall, a fine solo effort, and two Aning strikes - one deflected off a Pastures defender and the other coming after a superb run and neat one-two with the skilful Woodward, on for centre-forward Allard who had worked tirelessly all match long.

Day; Sharp, Watkiss (Lewis), Riman, Cole; Pownall, Schad, Large, Sweet; Aning (Taylor), Allard (Woodward). Maksymiw, Smyth.
