Emmanuel travelled to Derby to take on higher-division opposition in the quarter-final of the Derby City League Challenge Trophy and came back having secured a fine victory. The church club began well with debutant Fraser busy in midfield and Aning a handful at centre-forward. And it was Emmanuel who took the lead as the ball fell to Smithson who drilled the ball across the box for Walker to coolly finish for his fourteenth goal of the season. Division One Allestree came back strongly and forced Day in the Emmanuel goal to make a couple of excellent saves to ensure Emmanuel went into the half-time break one-up. Allestree began the second half well enough to win a penalty from which they scored to level the scores. Emmanuel, though, responded well and began to play some excellent passing football and duly got their reward as Pownall pounced on a through-ball to restore Emmanuel's lead. Allestree now threw everything at Emmanuel but Riman, Arme, Cole and Sharp were immaculate in defence. Indeed, as Allestree pushed on Emmanuel became ever more dangerous on the break and, with minutes to go, won themselves a penalty - so up stepped Sweet to smash the ball home. Lewis then came on for Walker, adding pace to the Emmanuel attack as they saw out the final moments.
Day; Sharp, Arme (c), Riman, Cole; Pownall, Fraser, Sweet, Smithson; Aning, Walker (Lewis). AND ...Eccleston, Watkiss, Woodward, Smythe.
