UNDER 16's MATCH REPORT: LEFC 2 - 0 Barton

Emmanuel extended their unbeaten run to nine games with a solid win over a decent Barton Rovers outfit in the Derby City League. Despite travelling all the way from Staffordshire, Barton began brightly and Emmanuel had to look to Day and co. at the back to stand firm and this they did superbly well. On a sticky pitch the church team were struggling to play their way through the midfield and create many chances, though Aning did hit the bar with an exquisite flick following a superb through-ball from man-of-the-match Cole. The second half, saw Emmanuel finally take command of the game as they began to make good use of the wings and quicken the tempo. Their reward soon came as Riman headed on an excellent Pownall free-kick and Aning pounced on the loose ball to fire home from close range. This was soon followed by the second and decisive goal as Pownall hit the back of the net following some excellent work from the skilful Smithson. Emmanuel did then sit back a little and were indebted to Riman for a sensational defensive block to maintain their two-goal advantage. This seemed to inspire Emmanuel who then came up with the best move of the match as Arme produced a fantastic pass to find Aning who released Lewis wide on the left from where he delivered the perfect cross for Allard whose superb header was brilliantly tipped onto the bar by the Barton keeper.

Day; Eccleston (c) (Pownall), Arme, Riman, Cole; Sharp, Large, Schad (Taylor), Smithson (Lewis); Aning, Allard (Woodward). Sub: Maksymiw.
