Emmmanuel made it through to the quarter-finals of the Derby City Challenge Trophy as they overcame a battling Barton Rovers. Emmanuel began slowly against the Staffordhire outfit and it took a fine save from the excellent Day to keep Barton out; gradually, though, the church team began to dominate as captain Arme led by superb example and Large got a grip of the midfield. As the game progressed Emmanuel slowly settled into their passing game and soon set up a string of excellent openings. The breakthrough finally came as Pownall picked out Aning in the box who played a delightful ball to Walker - he was brought down but then picked himself up to score from the penalty. With the excellent Sharp and Taylor combining really well down the right Emmanuel continued to dominate and, just before half-time, doubled their lead as Schad, Lewis and Walker combined to set up Schad who fired home from the edge of the box. The second half was a fairly tense affair as Emmanuel only really performed in bursts and were grateful more than once to defenders Riman and Cole for maintaining Emmanuel's two-goal advantage. The win, though, was finally sealed as Woodward set up Pownall in the box who jinked past a couple of defenders before blasting the ball into the back of the net. With a couple of minutes to go Barton did get a goal but it was too late to worry Emmanuel who went on to secure a win that makes it just one defeat to-date this season. Well done to the whole squad.
